Traditional and rigid corporate culture also fails working mothers – and fathers – who work long and often wildly unpredictable hours and get little time off.

Too many mothers dread telling their boss they must stay home to take care of a sick child – and many must go back to work just weeks after having a new baby – because they can’t afford not to.

Every day, working parents are forced to make hard but unavoidable choices.

I’ve been lucky. And my wish for all of you is that not only tomorrow, but 20 and 40 and 50 years from now, you’ve found that sweet spot, that thing that allows you to get up in the morning, put both feet on the floor, go out and pursue what you love, and think it still matters.

Some of you will go to Silicon Valley and make great contributions to empower individuals and societies and maybe even design a life-changing app, like how to unsubscribe to Obama for America email list -- (laughter) -- the biggest “pan-list” of all times.

Some of you will go to Wall Street and big Wall Street law firms, government and activism, Peace Corps, Teach for America. You’ll become doctors, researchers, journalists, artists, actors, musicians. Two of you -— one of whom was one of my former interns in the White House, Sam Cohen, and Andrew Heymann —- will be commissioned in the United States Navy. Congratulations, gentlemen. But all of you have one thing in common you will all seek to find that sweet spot that satisfies your ambition and success and happiness.

I’ve met an awful lot of people in my career. And I’ve noticed one thing, those who are the most successful and the happiest -- whether they’re working on Wall Street or Main Street, as a doctor or nurse, or as a lawyer, or a social worker, I’ve made certain basic observation about the ones who from my observation wherever they were in the world were able to find that sweet spot between success and happiness. Those who balance life and career, who find purpose and fulfillment, and where ambition leads them.

本人工作方面：做事勤奋诚恳，自信上进，喜欢交往，致学以用。在学习方面：专业基础扎实，虚心，好学钻研，努力提高自身素质，善于接受新鲜事物，善于学习新兴技术和新的方法。心理方面：自我调节能力较好，有耐受。个人亲和力较好，善于沟通和交流。

对于医学，我有着深厚的感情。学医五年，我被这一门学科深深地迷住了，细读医理，不禁酣畅雀跃，精研医案，往往拍案叫绝，掩卷沉思，常感豁然开朗之妙，临床印证，时有立竿见影之功。

在追求知识的同时，我努力完善自己人格。在别人眼中，我工作勤恳，为人坦诚，思想活跃，吃苦耐劳，维护集体利益，有敬业精神，与人为善，尊重他人。我深深懂得有高尚的道德观和完美人格的重要性，我也深信自己能做得更好。

Universities have a critical role to play in helping our country tackle this challenge, and I want to thank everyone at WashU who has been part of that work.

There really is no time to waste. The problems driven by climate change are getting worse – and that’s something you’ve seen right here during your lifetime.

The recent Mississippi River floods have affected life in St. Louis and they have devastated farmers across the Midwest. Those types of natural disasters will continue to get more severe with climate change, according to the best scientific data.

The trouble is too many politicians aren’t interested in hard science. They’re only interested in political science and winning their next election. So they ignore the data, they try to cut funding for climate research – because they know it will undermine their political argument. Sometimes they even try to block public employees from uttering the words – climate change.

You can’t make this stuff up. You just have to wonder, what are they trying to hide? And the only conclusion I have drawn is that they’re either hiding their own ignorance or their own bad faith.

Either way, when government tries to gag scientists and censor our conclusions, watch out and speak up.

“My University”英语演讲公开赛策划书

一、 活动主题

提高英语口语，促进学生成长。

二、活动背景

为了进一步培养和激发广大学生学习英语的兴趣和热情，提高我校学生的英语口语表达能力，促进学生成长成才，学校决定开展河南理工大学第五届英语演讲公开赛.为此我们在团委朱老师带领下举办此次活动并特邀院领导及老师参与，让学生更快更好的适应大学，全面发展，不断进步。

三、活动意义及目的：

在新学期树立起优良学风，营造良好的生活学习氛围。让新生了解大学学习,进一步加深新生对英语学习的认识，提升自我，展现自我,发展自我。本次活动所希望达到的具体目标是，学生能借助这次活动培养良好的学习方法，营造奋发向上的学习氛围，培养积极负责的工作态度，明确个人今后的发展方向和目标。

四、活动对象:

材料学院10、11级全体学生

五、活动方案

1、活动时间：xx年10月21日19：00-22：00

2、活动地点：材料学院

3、活动流程：

前期准备：

l申请教室，确定具体时间和地点；

l邀请院领导、团委老师及相关老师作为嘉宾及评委；

l联系各年级级辅导员协助工作，由学习部通知到各班，将参赛者名单提前上交，确保每个同学都按时参加；

l及时做好宣传，宣传板做宣传的同时，也在大一宿舍楼下张贴；

l将策划书交团委及学生会查阅审批；

l活动具体分工：

迎宾人员：体育部、实践部负责

维持秩序人员：学习部、自律部负责

学生会成员提前一小时布置会场；

l准备条幅；

l联系宣传部、团委新闻部等写新闻、采集相片

举办阶段：

l主持人介绍活动目的、比赛规则、与会嘉宾、评委，并宣布报告会正式开始；

l各参赛者按签到名单依次上台演讲，评委打分

l主持人总结并宣布此次演讲赛圆满结束；

l学生会成员留后清理会场。

后期总结：

l就活动的现场情况及会后讨论结果，写出此次活动的总结报告，将相关材料备份，交给有关部门存档；

l以新生在活动中的表现情况对以后的工作进行有针对性的安排，评出活动积极参与个人和班级

注意事项：

1、由学生会负责，以免秩序混乱；

2、做好评委及嘉宾的接待工作；

3、提前调试好设备以及准备三个话筒，以备临时出现故障

六、奖项设置：

1.对参赛者：设特等奖1～3名，一等奖设为参加决赛人数的20%左右，二等奖设为参加决赛人数的40%，三等奖设为参加决赛人数的40%和复赛中各组第5、6、7名。

2.对学院：设优秀组织奖四个。

3. 演讲题目：以“my university”为主题，题目自拟。

4. 评分方法：比赛采用十分制；保留小数点后两位小数；分组预赛每组5名评委老师，按照评分标准打分后，计算总平均成绩并排名；决赛评分由7位评委老师组成的评委团依据评分标准打分，去掉一个最高分和一个最低分后，计算出的平均分为选手的最后得分；

5. 评分标准

（1）演讲内容：主题鲜明，内容充实，文字优美——4分

（2）语言艺术：语言流畅，表述清晰，节奏准确——3分

（3）仪表着装：着装整齐，仪态大方，举止得体——2分

（4）演讲时间：4～5分钟之内———1分

敬爱的老师、亲爱的同学：

大家上午好！

我叫，今年十二岁，我第一次站在台上演讲，我要竞选班长。我此时此刻无比激动，十分紧张，你会问，我为什么要竞选班长，因为我想为班级服务，为班级贡献力量，为班级争夺荣誉。班长是一个令人向往的职位，俗话说：”不想当将军的士兵，不是一个好士兵！”我就是那个想当将军的士兵。班长要有能力，有爱心，帮助老师、同学。我相信我有能力当一班之长。我热情开朗，团结同学，拥有爱心，我的语文、作文很好，同学们有不会的题可以来问我，我会一一为你们解答。当然金无足赤人无完人，我也有缺点，因为我的成绩很好，有些瞧不起差生，不过，如果当了班长，我一定会改掉坏毛病的。

假如我当上了班长，我会用旺盛的精力，清醒的头脑为班级服务。帮助同学提高成绩，时不时我会举办一些朗诵、演讲等等的活动，如果一些同学打架了，我会帮助调和。我想我们应该当实干家，不要那些修饰的词语。当然，我也会落选，但是我不气馁，我落选了就说明我还有缺点，我将改正缺点，下次继续竞选。

既然是山，我就要坚定不移；既然是浪，我就要有前进的方向；既然是阳光，我就要普照大地；既然是班长，我就要当老师和同学的桥梁，谢谢大家！

Part of the genius of this system of universities involves adding you into the mix. It is the combination of brilliant scholars who dedicate their lives to exploring what we know, might know and must know about all the things in the universe, who work daily at the edge of accumulated human knowledge, sheltered by the principle of academic freedom, guided by the norms of scholarly temperament, working within the decentralized governance structure of the University. Together with the most brilliant and curious youth brought in from all over the world, to whom we teach everything we know so that they can go on with their lives and know even more.

It is all this that creates the utterly unique context of the modern research university and that unites the exhilarating intertwined ambitions of scholarship and teaching. The structure and functioning of these institutions are unique, no other organization has ever been designed in these ways, nor would it seem to anyone sensible to do。

From the outside, all look ungovernable. From the inside, and I can singularly attest to this, it is ungovernable, and it works and fabulously so.

Over the course of the 20th, and now the 21st centuries, virtually every new discovery of significance emanated from our academic research institutions which now number in the hundreds.

My friend, Our distinguished alumnus Warren Buffet likes to say that the American system operates with a secret sauce that has brought this nation to the pinnacle of human success in maximizing the welfare of its people, but that secret sauce begins with the knowledge created right here.
