You have a world of opportunity in front of you, and it is for you to decide what to do with this platform that you’ve worked so hard to earn.

No matter what field you enter after graduation, you have the opportunity to use your gifts to make a difference in the world.

This can feel daunting, at the outset of your post-Stanford life. Some of you may know exactly what contribution you want to make in the world, while others may still be searching for your way to make an impact.

But whatever you do, whatever profession you pursue or journey you take – whether you become a teacher or a community leader, a lawyer or a physician, an engineer or an artist, or a scholar or a scientist, or a mother or father, a caregiver to the next generation – whatever you make of your life and the opportunities before you, I hope you will use your gifts to change the world for the better.

Having a platform also comes with a responsibility. It requires an ongoing process of self-examination and a continual return to your guiding values.

You may find, at times, that the path forward is unclear. Or you may realize, in hindsight, that you have made missteps along the way.

All of us make mistakes. I certainly do – just ask my wife and kids!

All of our lives require self-examination.

You might never fail on the scale I did, but some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.

Failure gave me an inner security that I had never attained by passing examinations. Failure taught me things about myself that I could have learned no other way. I discovered that I had a strong will, and more discipline than I had suspected; I also found out that I had friends whose value was truly above the price of rubies.

The knowledge that you have emerged wiser and stronger from setbacks means that you are, ever after, secure in your ability to survive. You will never truly know yourself, or the strength of your relationships, until both have been tested by adversity. Such knowledge is a true gift, for all that it is painfully won, and it has been worth more than any qualification I ever earned.

Amnesty mobilises thousands of people who have never been tortured or imprisoned for their beliefs to act on behalf of those who have. The power of human empathy, leading to collective action, saves lives, and frees prisoners. Ordinary people, whose personal well-being and security are assured, join together in huge numbers to save people they do not know, and will never meet. My small participation in that process was one of the most humbling and inspiring experiences of my life.

Unlike any other creature on this planet, humans can learn and understand, without having experienced. They can think themselves into other people’s places.

Of course, this is a power, like my brand of fictional magic, that is morally neutral. One might use such an ability to manipulate, or control, just as much as to understand or sympathise.

And many prefer not to exercise their imaginations at all. They choose to remain comfortably within the bounds of their own experience, never troubling to wonder how it would feel to have been born other than they are. They can refuse to hear screams or to peer inside cages; they can close their minds and hearts to any suffering that does not touch them personally; they can refuse to know.

I might be tempted to envy people who can live that way, except that I do not think they have any fewer nightmares than I do. Choosing to live in narrow spaces leads to a form of mental agoraphobia, and that brings its own terrors. I think the wilfully unimaginative see more monsters. They are often more afraid.

What is more, those who choose not to empathise enable real monsters. For without ever committing an act of outright evil ourselves, we collude with it, through our own apathy.

One of the many things I learned at the end of that Classics corridor down which I ventured at the age of 18, in search of something I could not then define, was this, written by the Greek author Plutarch: What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality.

The search for truth became its core animating idea and the American Universities flourished over time to institutionalize and idealize that way of life. Also, in 1919, at the more local level, on this campus, the new year-long required course for Columbia freshman has launched call contemporary civilization.

Though today, we know C.C. is the Genesis of the famed curriculum, then it was nothing more than a bold experiment in higher education. The objective reflected in the course name was to apply learning and reason derived from classic texts to the problems facing society in the aftermath of a cataclysmic war. The idea was to double down on the academic mission and it has made a difference as generation after generation has attested to its value in creating an open mind and intellect.

Both of these century-old intellectual innovations arose from the same sensibility. Both assumed that the best side of human nature includes the desire to learn and to live by the truth and to acquire and to create knowledge. And while our natural negative instincts activated by our fears, greed and lust for power sometimes divert us from that quest. A life worth living will only follow from a determined effort to engage with ideas at the most profound levels, even those ideas we dislike and firmly believe to be in error.

This time, your time presents the conundrum this is above all a moment when we must reassert our commitment to open inquiry, to reason and to the sanctity of knowledge and understanding. As was the case a century ago, these pursuits are increasingly out of step with the currents of the broader world, making it all the more essential that we express our devotion to that endeavor.

my family was rather poor when i was in my childhood. we didnt have our own house and had to live in a shabby， small room rented from my fathers factory. the room was so small that there was little space for people to walk. i didnt have my own bed and had to sleep with my parents. this is terrible both for my parents and me.

but father made this all different!he works very hard on his own business, now we have our own 2 housese,surly,i have my own room.and he take our family so much happiness, richer and richer.

it is been incredible to hear so many stories.during the two years prior campaigning, traveling around the country. one of the unique things about this experience, my father was running for president. people would come up to youwherever you were and tell you their stories. with suchtremendous detail, and tell you of their hardest challenges, and share with you things in a way they neither -- never would have.they would never open themselves up to you in the same way theydo during the process of a campaign. now today, being part of this administration. i feel blessed for the candor in which people share their ideas and personal stories. linda and i were together in baltimore just days after the inauguration. we did a roundtable with small business owners, predominantly female, hosted by the national urban league. one of those women who actually i brought her to the white house a few months later is named lisa phillips. she had a smalls ness. she told me her storyand i think -- we were all crying. it was so amazing. she started out homeless. she is now engaged. this spring she got her mastersdegree. she has a small but thriving small business and party planning. she is volunteering with homeless youth in baltimore. so this is -- these types of stories forever change you. it is unbelievable to hear the purser variants, the grant, the energy. i know she is going to make an enormous impact not just in her business but her community. we talk about small business, how it is going to grow our economy and benefit american workers, butthe amount of philanthropy being done on the local level by small business is a norm is enormous. im sure each of you can share your own stories just about how you are able to give act and you do in such a tremendous way. lisa story was moving to me.

1. As a speaker, I’ve only had two complaints from audiences. One, that I talk so loud they can’t fall asleep. And two, that I talk so long they can’t stay awake.

2. Some people suffer from stage fright. I don’t. The stage doesn’t bother me at all. It’s the audience that scares the hell out of me!...

3. At one time or another, I think each of us has wished we could turn back the clock. I know if I could turn back the clock just 45 minutes, I’d be the happiest person in this room. Because that’s when I left my speech on the kitchen table...

4. I don’t want to brag, but the last time I did this it brought the audience to its feet. And they never sat down again until they reached their cars...

5. If I’m a little hesitant, you’ll have to excuse me. This is the first after-dinner speech I’ve ever made ---except for yelling at my kids in McDonald’s...

6. I’m not used to speaking to such a large audience. The one thing that gives me courage is that I’m speaking on my favorite subject --- me.

7. People always ask me why I wear a big red ten gallon hat (or some other very noticeable article of clothing) and I tell them. It has to do with taking a positive but practical view of life. I’ve been lucky. And my wish for all of you is that not only tomorrow, but 20 and 40 and 50 years from now, you’ve found that sweet spot, that thing that allows you to get up in the morning, put both feet on the floor, go out and pursue what you love, and think it still matters.

Some of you will go to Silicon Valley and make great contributions to empower individuals and societies and maybe even design a life-changing app, like how to unsubscribe to Obama for America email list -- (laughter) -- the biggest “pan-list” of all times.

Some of you will go to Wall Street and big Wall Street law firms, government and activism, Peace Corps, Teach for America. You’ll become doctors, researchers, journalists, artists, actors, musicians. Two of you -— one of whom was one of my former interns in the White House, Sam Cohen, and Andrew Heymann —- will be commissioned in the United States Navy. Congratulations, gentlemen. Were proud of you. (Applause.)

But all of you have one thing in common you will all seek to find that sweet spot that satisfies your ambition and success and happiness.

I’ve met an awful lot of people in my career. And I’ve noticed one thing, those who are the most successful and the happiest -- whether they’re working on Wall Street or Main Street, as a doctor or nurse, or as a lawyer, or a social worker, I’ve made certain basic observation about the ones who from my observation wherever they were in the world were able to find that sweet spot between success and happiness. 谢谢学院和同学们给我这个机会来和即将毕业的14级同学们最后说上几句衷肠话语！在这之前，受到同学们邀请来参加今天的这个晚会，我十分乐意，因为14级的同学是我非常非常喜欢的一届学生，说什么都要来送大家一程的。后来听说要我作为教师代表做一个发言，我便开始忐忑起来。我不敢代表全院的教师同事来这里讲话，就代表自己来简单聊几句吧，至多，还可以代表一下亲爱的 杨老师，呵呵！

我们师生一场走到了今天，说真的，不知道该怎样表达我此时的心情。我想，就从两年前说起吧。当年04级毕业的时候，我和杨老师都参加了同学们的毕业晚会。杨老师和我悄悄地说：“在这以后，可能不一定来参加这种活动了，不过，06级同学毕业的时候，我会很愿意来的。”我和杨老师的想法完全一样，也很明白她这样说的原因，那就是，我们和你们这一级的同学感情最深，相处最融洽！

大家在一起的这些时光里，我们不仅深深接受了知识的沐浴，还浓浓地体验了师生共处的情谊。大家朝夕共处，情思相牵。课堂内，我们思想碰撞，热烈地进行思想的碰撞；课堂外，我们肝胆相照，交心诉情，成为了朋友。在我的日志里我发明了一个词，把自己当作你们的“师友”，总结的就是我们这样一种难得的关系和情谊。

不过，你们似乎也解透了我的心思，早就不把老师当外人，当成了自己的师长朋友，对吧？不是吗？我好像听说你们给我取了个特别的称呼，叫我作“志凌哥”是吧？瞧，我也挺喜欢这个名儿的，觉得很亲切！不过，我不像“潇洒哥”那样潇洒，也没有“小马哥”那样的帅气！呵呵！只是有时候，我会想，给大家上课的时候，你们是否会觉得是大哥在教训你，而不是个老师在教授你，会不会很不屑地嘀咕：“这哥们该歇歇了吧！”有时候，这种混沌的身份感也会在我上课的时候悄悄闪过，导致我总是不知道该怎样措辞和操用口吻。

我想，这种疑虑我没有机会再在你们这些同学的身上来发生了。因为，你们要走了。

同学们，你们要走了，我们作为老师的，既感到高兴，又十分地不舍。大家学有所成，有机会大施拳脚，开天辟地，我们深以你们为荣！但另一方面，你们即将中断几年相处的经历，离开这片青春记忆中最多彩的土地，想到这里，真是让我们又不禁叹息！

大家好！

今天我非常荣幸的站在这里竞选班长，古人云：“群龙不能无首。”我的目标就是成为这个班的首席。

是大树的，就要长得茂盛；是花儿的，就要开得鲜艳；是班长的，就要起好带头作用。

我竞选班长，是因为我从小管理能力就不错。从一年级开始，我就知道自己要整理房间，把各种各样的东西都摆放地井井有条。当爸爸妈妈的店里很忙的时候，我就会去帮忙。有时还会像个大人一样给大家分配工作，生意一个都没落下，大人们都夸我厉害。

而且我的脑子动得很快，只要一出现什么难题，脑子一咕噜一转，马上，答案就清晰可见。然后把它安排好。

同时，我也当过很多年的班长，是“老手”了，很有经验。可以更好地维持班级的秩序，更好地带领班级，管理班级。

如果我有幸当上了班长，我会让大家看到一个崭新的我，一个尽职尽责的我，一个在奋进向上的我，一个在勇往直前的我。我会以的态度管理班级，并以精神饱满的状态面对同学，帮助同学们，更会提升自己的学习情况。让我们在学习中寻找乐趣，在集体中互帮互助。

当然，我也会在老师的带领下展开各种各样丰富多彩的班队活动，让班队活动成为我们最能展现自我的舞台。并且，我会当好老师的小助手，为同学们排忧解难，积极的参加各项活动与活动的策划。我也已经回更好地完成老师教给我的任务，这是我的职责。

若是落选了，我也不会气馁，这就说明我还有一些不足之处，我将会继续完善自我。

As you slowly open your eyes, look around, notice where the light comes into your room; listen carefully, see if there are new sounds you can recognize; feel with your body and spirit, and see if you can sense the freshness in the air.

Yes, yes, yes, it’s a new day, it’s a different day, and it’s a bright day! And most importantly, it’s a new beginning for your life, a beginning where you are going to make new decisions, take new actions, make new friends, and take your life to a totally unprecedented(空前的) level.

大家好!

我是某某某，迈入大学之后一切都不一样了，不管是在学习上面，还是在时间上面，我自己感觉很是紧张了，过去的很多年我都没有过这种感觉，因为这是人生的最后的学习阶段了，之前一直都没想过这些，毕业之后面临的是生活，社会，总有一天是要走出象牙塔，这是一定的，我们总是在不知不觉中提高着自己吗，但是这种提高是要付出的，在大学生活当中有很多提高自己的方式，在我以为做一名班干部能够有效的锻炼自己，在大学这最后的学习阶段我不放过任何一个学习的，提升的机会，所以这次我也是来竞选的，班长一职我内心充满了无限的期待，对着两个自我并不陌生，甚至说是很熟悉，在班长一职上我是有过经验的，我非常愿意相信这些都是我以后提升的机会，我愿意服务于班级，服务于大家，这些都是相互的，我知道没什么事情是不能纠正改变的，作为一名班长我也会得到很多锻炼，这就是一种相互。

当然作为一名班长不是说说而已，付出一定的行动证明自己非常重要，但是现在大家对我也不是非常的熟悉，来到某某大学这里我非常希望能够让自己进步，让自己的能够得到肯定，这次来竞选班长一职也是有这么一个想法，在工作当中证明自己是最直接的，我内心对自己充满了自信，不是什么事情都可以逃避，有些东西都是不断的积累的出来的，作为一名班长能力是一方面，这个也是非常重要的一点，只有把这些都弄清楚了才是好的，让自己在这些方面都得到很多的提升是一个不错的锻炼，这次我也一直在想着怎么去展示自己，当然班长一职有能者当之，作为班长有担当是最重要的，不管是在什么时候都要清楚一点，有责任心有担当，这样的班长才是为班级真心付出的。

再能里上面我不才也是有过几年的班长工作经历，这些年来来的一些事情上面我也是都在努力，给自己的足够的时间去提升，正式因为有过几年的班长工作经历，我知道作为一名班长要做到哪些，在班上扮演着什么一个角色，这些都是要非常清楚的，我深深地知道作为迎班长的责任之重，但是同时我也觉得我能够胜任这个职位，尽管现在是不能看到我的能力，可是我想我不会让大家失望的，也请同学们辅导员给我这么一个机会。

大家好!国学经典是中华民族的传统文化，蕴含着民族精神和民族情感，承载着中华民族的思想精华。今天，我们全校师生在这里隆重集会，举行经典诵读比赛，在比赛中，同学们的表现非常出色，朗诵的语调抑扬顿挫，有的清新优美，有的动情感人，有像山洪暴发、又像涓涓溪流，一篇篇经典让我们回味无穷，也再一次诠释了经典诗文在朗诵上平仄、押韵的美感。可见我们各位老师再背后付出的辛劳，在这里我道一声，你们辛苦了!同时此次经典诵读也突显了我校师生追求美、欣赏美、展示美、歌颂美的思想情操。让我们感受到了中华文化的博大精深，让我们享受着五千年的文明给我们留下的巨大的精神宝典，同学们，本次经典诵读比赛已圆满落幕，但是，诵读的任务却没有结束，它应该是延续的，是长久的。诵读经典诗文可以使我们加深对民族精神和优秀文化的理解，在诵读中亲近经典，在亲近中热爱经典，在热爱中弘扬经典，爱我中华，就要读经典，每个人，教师也好，学生也好，都要参与到中华经典诗文诵读活动中去，希望我们以此次活动为契机，结合我校每天一小时的读书等一系列的活动，通过诵读延续我们中华经典，这些打着中华烙印的经典将会深深的印入我们的骨髓里，改变我们的气质、我们的格调。在中华美德的滋养下，我们的生活将更加阳光，在诵读千古美文中，我们的人生将更加多彩。

本人毕业于_医学院临床医学专业，获得医学学士学位。

本人工作方面：做事勤奋诚恳，自信上进，喜欢交往，致学以用。在学习方面：专业基础扎实，虚心，好学钻研，努力提高自身素质，善于接受新鲜事物，善于学习新兴技术和新的方法。心理方面：自我调节能力较好，有耐受。个人亲和力较好，善于沟通和交流。

对于医学，我有着深厚的感情。学医五年，我被这一门学科深深地迷住了，细读医理，不禁酣畅雀跃，精研医案，往往拍案叫绝，掩卷沉思，常感豁然开朗之妙，临床印证，时有立竿见影之功。

在追求知识的同时，我努力完善自己人格。在别人眼中，我工作勤恳，为人坦诚，思想活跃，吃苦耐劳，维护集体利益，有敬业精神，与人为善，尊重他人。我深深懂得有高尚的道德观和完美人格的重要性，我也深信自己能做得更好。

In sports, we call for “fresh legs” when our health is on the decline, when our bodies are met with dis-ease, or when veteran players get sick or tired. I would submit that my generation, most of your parents’ cohort, is the veterans and frankly, we are winded. We’ve been in the game since the clock started. Now, don’t get it twisted. W still got it. Thank you for that. But we still need your enthusiasm, your emotional intelligence and your energy to impact the field of play in this game we call life.

So let’s wrap this thing up – you ready? I asked you: were you ready? Because it’s time to move on to the really exciting stuff...the conferring of degrees! Somebody say amen.

So let me leave you with this.

Duke is a very special place. To get in is no small feat, but to get out is a real accomplishment.

Every one of you graduates is to be commended for your hard work and effort to this point. From our youngest grad at 20 years old to our most seasoned grad at 72, somebody say amen, you are all awesome and we are truly proud to welcome you into the Duke Family!

Dear friends:I am a rich girl, because I have a lot of treasure.

Friends are my treasures. Whenever I am sad and down, I know they would hold my hands and warm my heart. They show me how amazing the friendship is.

Families are also my treasures. Whether time find us far apart or it keeps us close together, they are always standing by my side. They tell me how wonderful to be loved by people you love.

Experience is my treasure. Whatever good or bad situation I have to face, it would show me the right way. It helps me to know more about life.

I believe I will be richer in the future., because the way of life is just like a journey of finding treasure .You never know when and where you can find them. You just keep going and they will be found in some time at some place. I will cherish what I have had and keep finding with my curiosity and passion .

I fall in love with reading, because I can get the treasure of knowledge .

I take part in activities, because I can find the treasure of cooperation.
